Bead A Mini-Blossom With Lisa Yoder

Saving The Earth, One Shirt At A Time

Guest Speaker | Pam Bechill

PAMELA MCCLAIN BECHILL is an artist currently residing in Oceanside, California with her husband Bob and 2 cats. She began sewing as many of us have, making stuff from Mom’s scraps. Her favorite medium is any art she can do with her hands - which is pretty much any art! She especially loves the fabric arts and has been working at her craft for the past 65 years. Her current passion is prowling yard sales and thrift stores for gently used clothing. Through a little creativity, imagination, some great Gingher scissors, and one very hard-working Bernina sewing machine, she can transform these items into Upcycled fashion pieces.
For the program, Pam will be sharing her ideas and samples on how to make these transformations with your recycled clothing, thrift store or yard sale finds. . . such as transforming men’s shirts into classy women’s tunics and tops. She is trying to spread the word about the waste crisis that we are facing in the US as well as the rest of the world. And although her "stash" has increased some she continues to resist buying new fabric as best she can.

Lisa Yoder | Bead A Mini-Blossom

... The Workshop

Learn basic beading skills while creating a small flower with seed and bugle beads.  The final flower can be glued onto a canvas and displayed on a mini easel.  You should be able to complete the project during the two-hour class.  All supplies provided by TSGSD; please bring small scissors.

... About Lisa

Lisa Yoder is a Diego based textile artist known for her exquisite beaded and hand-stitched textiles. Working in the “art quilt tradition,” she works primarily with three layers – the top layer is stitched and beaded, the center layer is thin cotton batting, and the backing is fabric. Lisa takes a meditative approach, patiently stitching one bead at a time. She has been making her unique beaded textile pieces for over a decade and has taught beading classes at art museums, quilt guilds, and other venues since 2011. Lisa spent nine years as a membership manager/lead docent at Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles in Point Loma.
